MAMI Plays Host

Plenty of changes have recently taken place in Saskatchewan’s mining industry and the
overall attitude is one of tempered optimism.

“A good current summary of mining in Saskatchewan would be that uranium has hit bottom but it’s slowly growing, and potash pricing is historically in line. Nutrien’s low-cost Rocanville potash mine is key. More blue sky-type projects include BHP’s Jansen potash mine and Star Diamond’s/Rio Tinto’s development of the Star and Orion South kimberlites near Prince Albert,” said Eric Anderson, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Industrial and Mining Suppliers Association (SIMSA).

SIMSA represents 170 companies; each member company must have at least three employees located in the province of Saskatchewan. The organization hosts procurement events attended by its members and large companies such as Cameco, Mosiac and Nutrien.
