On April 16, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, and the Honourable Carla Qualtrough, the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Disability Inclusion, announced $12.8 million in funding for Project Learning Tree Canada to employ youth in nature conservation.
After 13 years as President and Chief at Forests Ontario, Steve Hounsell is stepping down from his position at the not-for-profit organization. His successor will be Malcolm Cockwell of Haliburton, ON. Simultaneously, current Board Member Christine Leduc from Timmins, ON will become Vice President of the Board of Forests Ontario.
To improve mining literacy and awareness among young Canadians, Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN) has announced an investment of $22,500 for the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM). This grant will help CIM develop a program that will raise awareness of the benefits and importance of mining in a low-carbon economy and drive innovation for the minerals and metals industry.
